Walking the Marais 1

Between the Place de Pompidou and the Bastille is the Jewish Quarter, lively with sandwich shops and bakeries selling giant sized onion and poppy seed bagels.  

 

     

In the window of one store a man stood filling pita bread with vegetables and fried balls of chickpea  batter. 

 

 

 

We finally crowded into a small cafe, where the tables had barely enough room between them to let Twiggy through, and ate falafels that were so exuberant the mayonnaise dripped with every bite. Most of it ended up on the front of my shirt, but  it was worth the trouble.
